The Limbourgs
welcomed by a steward
from the cold.
Opaque sky-
the wife warms her knees,
sheep now penned.
Lusignan…
Melusine-haunted.
Oxen plough.
Damosel,
you will ever be
Dourdain’s jewel.
Royal rider,
you meet The May Queen
from Riom.
St Chapelle:
in your shade fair maids
haymaking.
Scythe the corn
while Poitiers enjoys
a rare peace.
At Etampes,
lady falconers
take control.
At Saumur,
a peasant’s backside
mid-vendange.
Old Louvre,
your fields protected
from the birds.
A swineherd
shakes acorns after
the Duke’s death.
Vincennes’ keep,
where hounds savage boar:
Duke’s birthplace.
