WINTER
(Wikimedia Creative Commons. Ice ferns
by Schnobby, 2010)
One morning you wake
and are aghast at snowfall;
mad frost artistry
grafittiing your windows.
If you stoke a fire,
you can stay indoors; be snug
while condensation
presents an Etch-a-Sketch screen
for dripping, childish doodles.
Ambivalence grows
as you watch the pristine paths,
sullied by boot treads.
Slush’s slurry meltdown brings
routine’s return; ash thrown out.
